TrustoCorp Street Art in Dumbo (via DumboNYC.com)

Localblog www.dumbonyc.com has become a favourite of mine while finding out more about St Ann's neighbourhod (or as they would doubtless say "neighborhood").

It has posts about what's being filmed in the area (last week it was TV legal soap "Damages"), interesting artistic activity, such as these guerilla road signs and shop openings.

The area appears dynamic, with new restaurants, boutiques and apartments popping up regularly. It's a bit more commercial than the comprable Brum Localblog - www.digbeth.org - Nicky Getgood's "Digbeth is good". I already have a whole Birmingham/Brooklyn and Digbeth/Dumbo comparison thing going on in my head.

But www.dumbonyc.com is another example of how you can create a sense of place by logging the daily rhythm and mood of a location, the incidentals that cumulatively create a district, an economy and ultimately, a community.

About

Working at Fierce and travelling about for the Clore Leadership Programme - where I am the NESTA supported fellow for entrepreneurial cultural organisations - I get to see artistic and cultural work that is exciting and inspiring. This is the place I can share them online to see if you think they are inspiring too!
